Harajuku Dolls

I have been very disappointed by the lovely and talented Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers clothing and accessory line. It bears no resemblance whatsoever to the funky layers of colors, patterns and materials that can be witnessed on the streets of Harajuku. In fact, the line can pretty much be summed up as cute t-shirts that feature Asian-styled characters wearing clothing much cuter than what can actually be purchased at Harajuku Lovers.

Now along come Fashion Angels! They are the perfect blend of my passion for fashion and toys! Although I am frustrated that their clothing selection is fun, funky and much too small for me to wear, it’s darn fun to look at. Get some inspiration from a doll’s closet here: Fashion Angels Clothing

From the company’s press release:

Fashion Angels Enterprises, Milwaukee, Wis., adds a unique twist to its mix-and-match doll clothing line with a trendy collection of outfits inspired by the creative and often wild style that started in Harajuku, an area of Tokyo known for fashion. Harajuku girls layer their clothing; combine plaids, stripes and other patterns, including “goth” skull prints; and favor unusual accessories like aprons and tiny hats. Fun and funky is the order of the day!

Pictured here are doll Bebe in Long Black and Pink Wig ($12.00), White T-shirt with Skulls ($7.50), Pink Layered Mini Skirt ($15.50), Black Stripe Leggings ($7.50), and Long Beach Sneakers ($8.00), while doll Izzy wears the Gatsby Hat ($8.00), Black Tank with Skull ($7.50), Velvet Shawl with Skull ($8.00), Plaid Tokyo Pants ($13.50) and flowering Brooklyn Hi-Tops ($8.00). She also carries the Leopard Messenger Bag ($6.50).

Each of the four Fashion Angels Living Dolls are sold separately for approximately $36.

Robot Charms by Obvious Front

Affordable, Sustainable, Clever and Cute!

These charming robots are made from recycled transistors. I bought a pair a few months ago and receive compliments whenever I wear them. I’m sometimes tempted to pretend I made them myself.

Hand Made Tees from Danger

Once again I find myself looking overseas.

Danger, located in the UK, sells heavyweight t-shirts with hand-stitched, adorable felt characters. They run $53 plus $11 shipping which is reasonable for American consumers.

However, in this land of immediate gratification, the 30 day wait while the shirt is stitched may leave you a bit unsettled…until you finally pull possibly the coolest tee you’ve ever owned over your impatient little head.

Aaaaah!

This adorable tote is by Chax Colony, from the mind of Mori Chax, creator of Gloomy Bear. Although it’s easy to find plenty Gloomy vinyl, wind-ups, plush and key chains on U.S. sites such as Kid Robot and Giant Robot (basically anyplace with a robot in the name), it’s very difficult to find aparrel and accessories. I had to go to Japan’s Chax Colony Yahoo store to find Gloomy Totes, Jackets and Tees.

One adorable Tote features a Gloomy Bear skull with fork and knife crossbones and reads, “Did you wash your hands?” For 2940 Yen, under $25 USD, I’d be willing to spring for this one if I could read Japanese and if I weren’t positive the shipping costs would be outrageous.

Princess Tina in Australia also creates some adorable clothing and accessories. The only place I’ve found their wares online was at Magic Pony which is based out of Canada. One favorite is the Angry Tooth earring which retails for $22 CAD.

Sure, the U.S. dollar goes a bit further in Canada and the shipping rates are reasonable, but that breaks down to $20 per earring. Looks like I’ll have to attempt to make this one myself. Stay tuned (but don’t hold your breath) for the results of that effort.
